19th Century French Brard Tours Trompe L’œil Fish Pottery Plate
This is a French Palissy Majolica wall platter or plate from the late 19th century. These ceramics, also known as “rusticware,” are produced in the style of the 16th-century potter Bernard Palissy, known for his realistic depictions of nature in high relief.
The platter features highly detailed, overlapping molded fish, an eel, and other aquatic creatures on a mossy or water-effect background.
This is a 19th-century French Palissy-ware trompe-l’œil dish created by the ceramicist Léon Brard.
