Pair of 18th-Century Delft Blue and White Bowls / Plates
A charming pair of 18th-century Dutch Delft blue and white shallow bowls, each hand-painted with a chinoiserie landscape inspired by Chinese porcelain imported into Europe during the period.
The centres depict a waterside pavilion surrounded by trees and distant hills, with a bird in flight overhead and a small figure beside the water. The broad borders are divided into alternating panels of stylised scrollwork and finely painted geometric diaper decoration. A warm iron-red/brown line to the rims provides an attractive contrast to the cobalt-blue painting.
The reverse photograph shows the characteristic raised foot and white glazed underside. As expected with Delftware of this age, there is some wear and fritting around the rims, adding to their authentic 18th-century character.
