Pair of Early 19th Century Delft Blue and White Plates

A decorative pair of early 19th-century Delft blue and white plates, dating to circa 1820s.

Each plate is hand-painted with a bold central arrangement of stylised flowers and foliage rising from a tall fluted vase. The composition combines deep cobalt blue with softer washes and finely drawn details, particularly effective in the large radiating flower and scrolling leaves.

The floral centre is framed by concentric blue lines, while the outer border carries a continuous pattern of small flowers, scrolling foliage and fern-like leaves. The slight variations between the two painted compositions give the pair the individual character expected of hand-decorated Delftware.

The reverse is simply tin-glazed in white, with an unglazed foot rim. There is visible fritting and minor glaze loss around the rims, together with other surface irregularities consistent with age and manufacture.

A charming and highly decorative pair, particularly attractive displayed together on a wall or dresser.
