Set of Five Large Dutch Delft Garniture with Lion Finials, circa 1800

A very good set of five-piece Dutch Delft garniture, dating to circa 1800s, comprising three large covered baluster vases and two flared cylindrical vases, all decorated in the characteristic blue and white palette.

The three principal vases are surmounted by domed covers with distinctive lion finials, each modelled in a seated pose and richly painted with scrolling foliate ornament. The bodies are elaborately decorated with finely painted river and landscape scenes, incorporating sailing vessels, trees, buildings and figures, enclosed within scrolling rocaille and foliate borders.

The two accompanying vases are similarly decorated with landscape and architectural scenes, with scrolling foliage and ornamental reserves throughout. The strong contrast of cobalt blue against the white ground gives the garniture a particularly crisp and graphic appearance. Wear and losses commensurate with age and use as per pictures.
