Carved and Painted Folk Ark Wooden Mushroom in its original Decoration

An antique painted wooden botanical model of a mushroom, mounted on a turned black base, with marbled paper lining the underside. Carefully hand-painted with naturalistic detail, the model captures the form, coloration, and structure of the specimen with remarkable accuracy.

Such realistic mushroom models were widely used in European pharmacies, schools, and medical institutions during the 19th and early 20th centuries. At a time when foraging was common—and misidentification could be deadly—these models served as essential educational tools, helping pharmacists, students, and mushroom pickers distinguish edible varieties from poisonous species without relying solely on fresh specimens.
