Mid-20th Century Silver-Plated Standing Wine Cooler

A decorative and useful mid-20th century silver-plated standing wine cooler, possibly French, of particularly elegant proportions.

The cooler takes the form of a deep, hand-hammered vessel, with a gently tapering body and simple swing handle, raised on a tall slender column terminating in a broad trumpet-shaped foot. The contrast between the richly textured, hammered surface of the cooler and the restrained simplicity of the stand gives the piece considerable presence.

The silver plate has acquired an attractive time-worn patina, with areas of wear and oxidation that add character and emphasise the texture of the metal.

Both practical and highly decorative, its generous height makes it particularly well suited for use beside a dining table or drinks table,

A characterful piece of 20th-century barware that would mix particularly well within both classic and contemporary interiors.
