Rare and of large scale 1960s American Enamel Flag

A very rare and unusually large scale, 1960’s American ‘Stars & Stripes’ flag. The flag is enamelled on metal and framed in American White Oak. Being such a large scale and of good quality, it is possible that this flag came from the side of a large American ship, owning to the slight curvature of the design. The design showing the 13 stripes that represent and original 13 colonies that rebelled against the British, and became the first states in the Union. Also showing the 50 stars which represent the 50 States of America.

The 48 star version went unchanged for 47 years, until the joining of Alaska on July 4 1959 and then Hawaii on 4 July 1960.

The flag of the United States is one of the most recognised symbols in the World, and a flag of this quality and large scale is a rarity and as such seldom comes on to the market.

A real statement piece in any setting.
