Cold-Painted Plaster Figure of a Man with Basket

A charming decorative cold-painted plaster figure depicting a smiling man holding a large woven basket. He is finely modelled wearing a striped shirt and broad-brimmed straw hat, embellished with a green ribbon and foliage, and raised upon a moulded black base.

The basket is particularly well detailed with a convincing woven effect, while the original painted surface has mellowed attractively with age. The figure retains a wonderfully characterful expression and good decorative presence.

A distinctive and highly decorative piece, retaining an appealing time-worn surface and patina.
