Large Pair of 19th Century English Terracotta Corbels Adapted as Table Lamps
A striking pair of 19th century English terracotta architectural corbels, expertly adapted as table lamps. Originally conceived as architectural elements, each corbel is richly carved with a boldly modelled lion’s mask emerging from scrolling acanthus foliage beneath a fluted Ionic-inspired capital, displaying the robust craftsmanship and decorative flair characteristic of the Victorian period.
The terracotta has acquired a beautifully mellow, weathered surface with subtle traces of natural patination, enhancing the architectural character of the pieces. Mounted on discreet black steel plinths and professionally wired, they make impressive statement lamps while retaining the integrity of their original sculptural form.
Presented in very good antique condition with expected weathering, minor chips, and surface wear consistent with age and their original architectural use.
