Pair of Large Late C19th French Terracotta Architectural Elements, Now as Table Lamps

A wonderfully decorative and unusual pair of large late 19th-century French terracotta elements, subsequently adapted as table lamps.

Each is boldly modelled in relief with scrolling foliate and stylised fleur-de-lis decoration, retaining a particularly attractive weathered surface with traces of the original painted decoration. The variations in colour, wear and patination give the terracotta a wonderfully time-worn character and emphasise the sculptural quality of the pair.

Now mounted on simple architectural bases and sensitively converted into table lamps, their generous scale and strong silhouette give them considerable presence. They would work particularly well on a large console or side table, where their combination of French architectural ornament and richly aged surface can be fully appreciated.

A striking and highly decorative pair, equally successful in a traditional interior or as sculptural accents within a more contemporary setting.
