19th Century Giltwood Mirror

A handsome 19th-century giltwood mirror of architectural, octagonal form, retaining its original bevelled mirror plate. The central bevelled plate is surrounded by a narrow gilt slip and an outer border of mirrored panels, creating an elegant sense of depth and reflection.

The frame is enriched with restrained moulded decoration, while small foliate and leaf-form gilt ornaments punctuate the surrounding mirrored border.

The original bevelled glass plate displays attractive foxing, spotting and areas of silvering loss, commensurate with its age. This mirror can be used either portrait or landscape.
