Late 18th Century Italian Painted and Gilded Mirror

A very elegant, late 18th century Italian carved wood mirror, richly decorated with original water gilding and retaining areas of its original deep red painted ground. The elegantly shaped frame displays the fluid asymmetry and naturalistic ornament associated with the late Rococo period, while the finely carved crest is centred by a pair of cherubic heads emerging from scrolling foliage and shell motifs.

Delicately carved scrolling acanthus leaves, shells and C-scrolls frame the glass.
