Wonderful and Original Early 19th Century Italian Painted and Polychrome Mirror

Wonderful and retaining the original decoration, early 19th century Italian Painted and polychrome mirror, with its original etched mirror plate.

This mirror, made in Italy around 1820, is an example of the historicist and ornamental decoration of the first third of the 19th century. Its structure is composed of a wooden core covered with plaster, polychrome and gilded, which gives it a sumptuous presence and an almost architectural character.

The profile of the frame, with a cut silhouette and crowned by a fleur-de-lis shaped top, is covered with a profusion of floral and fruit motifs in high relief, carefully modeled and painted in vivid red, green, ocher and blue tones.

The wheel-carved moon has a delicate vegetal motif incised in white that frames the reflective space, softening the transition between the glass and the frame.
