19th Century Large Gilded Oval Mirror, circa 1880
A large giltwood oval mirror dating to circa 1880, with an elegant architectural frame typical of the late 19th century.
The moulded and gilded outer frame is finely decorated with repeating classical ornament, enclosing an unusual inner oval border with twisted-rope detailing, joined to the outer frame by decorative supports. The mirror retains its original 19th-century mirror plate, with the gentle ageing and character associated with period glass.
Of particularly versatile proportions, the mirror can be hung either portrait or landscape.
