Queen Anne Triple-Plate Chinoiserie Mirror

An exceptional Queen Anne period triple-plate mirror, retaining its wonderfully atmospheric and naturally distressed early mirror glass.

The rectangular central plate is flanked by two subsidiary plates and enclosed by a typically bevelled mirrored border, secured with decorative gilt-metal clasps. The whole is contained within a charming naïve Chinoiserie-decorated frame, its restrained ornament and aged surface lending the piece considerable character.

The beautifully mottled and time-worn glass is particularly evocative, with the softly oxidised plates creating the depth and patina so desirable in early 18th-century mirrors. Combining the refinement of the bevelled mirrored surround with the more informal quality of its Chinoiserie decoration, this is a highly decorative and characterful example of the Queen Anne period.

Wonderful untouched surface and patination throughout.
