19th Century Italian Painted and Gilded Sofa

A graceful 19th century Italian painted and parcel-gilt sofa, richly decorated in the neoclassical taste and retaining a beautifully timeworn white painted finish with gilt highlights. The elegant openwork back is formed from a series of finely turned spindle columns beneath an ornate crest rail carved with an antique urn, scrolling acanthus foliage and flanked by diamond-shaped lozenge motifs.

The gently outscrolled arms terminate on turned baluster supports, while the seat is raised on slender tapering legs, creating a light and refined silhouette. The sofa has been newly reupholstered in a cheerful yellow and natural linen check

A charming decorative piece ideal for a hallway, drawing room, or bedroom.
