Set of Eight Mid 20th Cent French Painted Dinning Chairs

A very elegant set of eight, French painted dining chairs in the Directoire style, dating from the mid-20th century.

The chairs have elegant rectangular backs with gently flared uprights terminating in scrolls, above generously proportioned overstuffed seats. Raised on tapering turned front legs with block capitals carved with rosettes and swept rear legs, the design reflects the restrained neoclassical forms associated with the Directoire period.

The frames retain their original painted finish with an attractive naturally aged patina. The chairs have recently been reupholstered in our workshops in a yellow and ivory check linen and finished with close-nailed antiqued brass studs.
