19th-Century French Elm Commode with Original Marble Top
An elegant 19th-century French commode, beautifully constructed in elm and displaying a richly figured grain throughout. The three broad drawers have carefully matched veneers, creating an attractive symmetrical pattern across the façade, with a shallow frieze drawer above.
The commode retains its decorative gilt-brass ring handles and escutcheons, which complement the warm honey and amber tones of the elm. It is finished with its original dark marble top, with a softly moulded edge and attractive aged surface.
The restrained architectural form, generous proportions and figuring of the timber make this a particularly decorative piece, while the deep drawers provide excellent practical storage.
