19th Century French Transitional-Style Side Cabinet

A very elegant and with a lovely colour, 19th century French Transitional-style “secretaire a abattant” / side cabinet, of small proportions in fruitwood and mahogany veneer, featuring an ingenious dual-purpose design.

The upper section compartment features two faux-book spine cabinet doors that swing open to reveal compact storage, with a retractable Desk Slide: Just below the faux books, a pull-out writing surface lined with green tooled leather can be extended to serve as a hidden desk or cocktail preparation tray.

The lower section features double doors fitted with wire mesh (chicken wire) backing, allowing a semi-transparent view of internal shelving where books or display items are stored.
