Early 20th Century French Table D’Orientation

A rare early twentieth century side /coffee table made for the ‘Touring Club De France’ , a hand cut stone top on a forged wrought iron triform base, the top carved from a solid piece of stone then glazed in white glaze , the top was then etched and decorated with a compass, map and views of the Pyrenees showing each mountain and its direction , when looking from the ‘Summet De Superbagnères’ at 1797m, a favourite of the Tour De France now.

The table top states it was made in July 1907 and the detail etched on by F. Prudent from photos taken by Maur Gourdan in June 1907.

A rare one of a kind piece.

The Touring Club de France(1890-1983) was a French social club devoted to travel, founded by enthusiasts of the velocipede.Its headquarters sat on the Avenue de la Grande Armée in Paris.
