Small C19th French Writing Desk in the Louis XVI Taste
A very elegant 19th-century mahogany and mahogany-veneered lady’s writing desk in the Louis XVI style, of small proportions.
The rectangular top is inset with fawn-coloured tooled leather, displaying an attractive aged patina. Below is a single frieze drawer fitted with decorative brass handles and an ornate central escutcheon, opening to reveal a divided interior.
The small and compact scale makes it particularly suitable as a writing desk or dressing table in a bedroom or smaller spaces.
The leather writing surface shows considerable age-related wear, marks and variations in colour, as visible in the photographs. These contribute to the desk’s antique character.
