A classic from our collection of French Tables

We recently sourced this beautiful 1950s French occasional / low table that will work wonderfully in a contemporary home. A seemingly simple design but with a very unique patina which makes it stand out! A perfect example of a Geometric form that is often well loved by interior decorators.

Fundamentally, when it comes to geometric forms, it is all about the shapes and this beautiful piece is a great example. When most people think geometry it is all about triangles, rectangles and angles, but circles, ovals and even crescents in design are as geometric as the former in spite of the misconception that geometric shapes are all about strong linear clean shapes and cutting lines.

Coming back to the furniture item in focus, this beautiful piece is in the taste of Jean Royere (1902-1981), a celebrated French designer. Best known for his most iconic white L’Ours Polaire sofa, this famous decorator and furniture designer has inspired artists from far and wide and his legacy still lives on. You will find plenty of designs in the Jean Royere style by many designers of today.

This occasional table from the mid-20th century is in a subtle colour tone and covered in straw marquetry. We have more one-of-their-kind French tables available at our store located in Tetbury.
