“Maternity” Life Size Bronze Sculpture of Mother and Daughter

A very striking and timeless circa 1970s, life size sculpture in patinated bronze called “Maternity” by the late Spanish Rosa García Ferrándiz ( Sabadell, 1933- Barcelona, 2015 )

Rosa García Ferrándiz evokes in this sculpture a timeless ideal, a motherhood as a concept embodied in the figures of a mother and her child, with simple clothes to avoid references to a specific time or place. This image of an ideal concept is further reinforced by the modelling itself, subtle and attentive to detail, which reveals the imprint of the artist’s hand.
Trained at L’escola Massana de Belles Arts i Oficis and L’escola de Arts i Oficis de la Llotja de Barcelona, with such renowned teachers as Rosa Martinez Brau, Josep Jassans and Mariano Vilella, Rosa García Ferrándiz forged a long and internationally recognised artistic career. In 1972 she opened her studio in Barcelona, where she became a tireless worker with her creative capacity, with her sculptures of traditional language, of simple ideas, but with great strength. Her work consists mostly of female figures with Mediterranean features, with harmonious forms that seek balance.
