“I’ve always tried to focus on the essentials, tried to get to the heart of things. So I had to get to the laws that applied to me. No artist can escape the time in which he is placed; he has to come to terms with it in order to arrive at his own clear picture of the world. This effort is not only intellectual, but intuitive in the same way.”
Willi Deutzmann in the Junger Westen catalogue, 1951
